Reining Saddle

Rowland  reining saddle is specially crafted for the sport of reining, which showcases precise maneuvers like sliding stops, spins, and rollbacks. These saddles are designed to offer maximum support and balance for the rider, while also enabling the close contact and subtle cues that are essential in this discipline.

Seat Design:

Low, Deep Seat: This feature ensures a secure and balanced position for the rider, which is crucial for staying centered during those fast-paced maneuvers. It usually has a suede or soft leather surface to enhance grip.

Pelvis Support: The design allows the rider to roll their pelvis back, which is helpful for executing sliding stops.

Horn:

Low Profile Horn: Typically small and low, this horn is designed not to interfere with the rider’s hands or reins during intricate movements.

Pommel and Cantle:

Moderately Low Pommel: This provides good wither clearance while also supporting the rider’s posture.

Cantle: Usually about 2.5 inches tall, it features a moderately open “dish” and a Cheyenne roll to offer support without limiting movement.

Skirts:

Compact and Regular Options: The skirts are designed to be shorter and rounder than those found on other Western saddles, which enhances the horse’s flexibility and helps reduce weight.

Leather and Tooling:

High-Quality Leather: These saddles are typically made from premium veg-tanned leather, with custom tooling options available that range from simple borders to intricate floral designs.

Fenders and Stirrups:

Fenders: Positioned to allow for maximum leg movement, these are often available in various lengths to accommodate different rider heights.

Stirrups: Lightweight and designed to minimize strain on the rider’s legs during long rides.

Weight:

Lightweight Construction: Reining saddles are generally lighter, weighing around 23 pounds, which facilitates quick movements and helps reduce fatigue for both horse and rider.

Seat Sizes (Rider):

Youth:** 12-13 inches
Small Adult:** 14 inches
Average Adult:** 15 inches (most common size)
Large Adult:** 16 inches
Extra Large Adult:** 17 inches and above

Gullet Sizes (Horse):

Semi-Quarter Horse Bars: 6.0 to 6.5 inches

Quarter Horse Bars: 6.0 to 5-7 inches (fits the majority of horses)

Full Quarter Horse Bars: 7.0 to 8.0 inches (for horses with broad shoulders and wide withers)
